Explore the captivating contradictions and the dynamic relationship that Buenos Aires has with its inhabitants. From the friendly streets to the underlying violence, a city created by its paradoxes. Discover Buenos Aires through intimate conversations with residents that highlight their grievances with the city. Shedding light on the city's complexity through portraits of people and their daily lives. This film paints a critical and nostalgic portrait of a city that once was home and the memories that continue to shape it.
I stayed in Buenos Aires for two weeks. Allowing myself to be a tourist and be surprised. Going back to these places triggered valuable memories and I got to discover new places, and brought me closer to family and old friends. I also encountered a few challenges.
The editing was an inside-out process, writing the script after shooting. Finding a narrative thread between the interviews and finding a flow that felt dynamic and thorough. Also, this film is mainly directed at mainly non Spanish-speaking audiences, therefore captioning and translating was an important aspect to have in mind.
Conversations
Using a small camera to prevent intimidation, casually talking to the people as I would on a daily basis, giving them space to say whatever they wanted to. Through inside jokes, pauses and unrelated topics, about their daily activities, I got to learn more about their intakes on the city. This is a clip with my grandma and her mother that did not make the cut, but broke the ice for later conversation with them.
