After performing, a tired young artist returns home to pack up his childhood home, revisiting cherished memories and getting ready for a pivotal chapter in his life.
We follow Olly’s After Hours coming back from performing, returning home to finish packing up and leaving his childhood home. Revisiting cherished and dreaded memories, relationships with friends, romantic partners, family and Bertha. Charged with tiredness and nostalgia, and without Wasted Time, he packs up to close a chapter of his life.
Wooden Floors, Yellow Walls
'For the real houses of memory, the houses to which we return in dreams, the houses that are rich in unalterable oneirism, do not readily lend themselves to description. To describe them would be like showing them to visitors. We can perhaps tell everything about the present, but about the past'.
- The Poetics of Space
This film is driven by the idea of closing cycles, nostalgia and melancholy. Building a set that would be a home for the character throughout his life. Evoking this feeling this through colour and set to complement the music.
'No big lights'
Light shapes what we see, it directs our attention, determining what is noticeable and what is hidden. It offers a simple way of making both large, dramatic changes, and small subtle changes in a performance landscape. The play of light can emphasise form or dissolve shape and solidity, creating ambiguities of depth and scale.
- Chris Crickmay and Miranda Tufnell, BODY SPACE IMAGE
Using darkness and shadows as a communicator of the character's faded memories. Using light in a sculptural way.
